On Saturday, August 22nd, 2020 the Emergency Services were called to a local restaurant in Youghal, Co. Cork, where a gentleman had suffered a Cardiac Arrest. Thanks to the swift actions of a local Fisherman, two off duty Paramedics and two Gardaí who began the life saving ‘Chain of Survival’ by starting CPR and delivering a shock from the nearest communal Defibrillator that was located at the Youghal Post Office.
Just two days later another Emergency Call was raised when a second gentleman suffered a Cardia Arrest, two off duty Paramedics on their way home after a busy shift rushed to the gentleman’s aid, along with Emergency Services and a member of the Youghal Community First Responder Group.
There are 9 communal Defibrillators strategically located in the community and were purchased and are maintained by the people of Youghal by funds raised through contributions, raffles, flag days etc., and it has certainly proven to be a worthwhile investment. The machine is now back and ‘Rescue Ready’ once again at the Post Office. A huge well done to all rescuers involved and a speedy recovery to both gentlemen.
