Two ‘Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrests’ in Youghal in two days

On Saturday, August 22nd, 2020 the Emergency Services were called to a local restaurant in Youghal, Co. Cork, where a gentleman had suffered a Cardiac Arrest. Thanks to the swift actions of  a local Fisherman, two off duty Paramedics and two Gardaí who began the life saving 'Chain of Survival' by starting CPR and delivering a shock from the nearest communal Defibrillator that was located at the Youghal Post Office. The Irish Heart Foundation has said that new HSE advice to the public on performing CPR during the current coronavirus pandemic, can help save lives while also limiting the risk of spreading COVID-19. Students from University College Cork (UCC) are helping to save lives by supporting paramedics in the local ambulance service as Community First Responder (CFR) volunteers.
